Why We Study God's Word

At Calvary Chapel our primary focus is teaching the Word of God. We go through the Word verse-by-verse, studying the history, context, and meaning of the Scripture, then apply it to our daily lives. Our teachings are practical and easy to understand, yet reach deep into our hearts to transform us into God's image. We read out of the Holman Christian Standard Version.

Inspired By God
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (HCSB)

Brings us Rich Wisdom
Colossians 3:16 Let the message about the Messiah dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God. (HCSB)

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (KJV)

Keeps us from Sin
Psalms 119:11 I have treasured Your word in my heart so that I may not sin against You.(HCSB)

Brings us closer to Jesus
John 15:7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you. 8 My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be My disciples. (HCSB)

Purifies Us
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as to divide soul, spirit, joints, and marrow; it is a judge of the ideas and thoughts of the heart. (HCSB)
